This one-day masterclass has been designed to give leaders in school, with the responsibility for HR and staff management, a comprehensive update to help you ensure your HR practice remains efficient, up to date and compliant.

Join us for crucial legal updates on topics such as performance management, sickness and absence, discipline and grievance, restructuring and reorganisation and safe recruitment. You’ll come away understanding your legal obligations in these complex areas, ready to make any necessary changes to your school policies and procedures. You will also be prepared for any forthcoming changes to guidance and legislation for 2023.

This course is perfect for staff currently working in school HR, as well as those new to the role.

Meet the speaker/s:

Stephen Mitchell

Stephen is an experienced leader, with a finance and organisational leadership background, who enjoys going beyond the numbers, and adding real value to an organisation.

He was, until recently, the CEO of a growing 5 school Trust in the Midlands, with a secondary school in the top 1% of schools in the country for Progress 8 measures. He has previously worked as Chief Operating Officer for a multi academy trust which runs 17 schools, with a turnover of approx £100m, 2,500 staff, and serves 18,000 children.

Stephen qualified as an accountant in 2004 and recently gained an MBA, with a thesis focussing on improving the quality of management in education.

A Fellow of the Chartered Managers Institute (CMgr FCMI), a Fellow of the Institute or School Business Leadership (FISBL), a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts (FRSA) and a Member of the Institute of Directors (MIoD). He is also a Professional Associate of the Chartered College of Teaching.

Pippa Lloyd

Pippa is a skilled HR practitioner. Originally from a background of managing complex HR cases in the healthcare sector, her inquisitive nature and skilful manner quickly assess any situation and come to a successful solution.

Pippa is an L7 CIPD practitioner and has been both an HR manager and a Director of HR in academy HR leadership. An experienced mediator, Pippa combines a flair for making HR accessible with a tenacity for detail and a straightforward approach, ensuring that colleagues across the organisation can thrive and that schools can achieve their desired outcomes with minimum hassle and risk.

She has led policy and HR documentation reviews in a number of schools and Trusts, including full SCR reviews. She is well versed in ensuring that employee relations are supported through strong and supportive, clear, and transparent systems. She has used her training and mentoring skill to support individuals and HR departments.  Pippa has led academy conversions, fully managed the TUPE process, and has significant experience of managing employee relations, including performance management issues, in trusts
